When you select spot metering you can use the centre segment of the honeycomb pattern to precisely measure less than 3% of the entire viewfinder image. The pair of brackets shown in the centre of the viewfinder indicates the area in which the camera is metering. | You can activate the viewfinder to indicate when the optional Panorama Adapter is in place. |
The metering index appears in the viewfinder and shows four kinds of information. This helps you learn how the 700si sets expsoure for different scenes, and lets you compare manual exposure settings to the camera's meter reading. The index ranges from +3 to -3EV and shows 1/2 stop increments.

In Honeycomb pattern metering mode, used with P,A, or S mode, the index appears when the Exposure Compensation Button is pressed once. The difference between the exposure for the current scene as determined by the centre-weighted average metering and the exposure which the current shutter speed and aperture will provide, is shown. This shows how the 700si compensates exposure for back-lit, spot-lit or off centre subjects. | ![]() |
When you press the Sot Button in spot metering mode used with P,A or S Mode, the metering index shows the difference between the locked value and the brightness of the area currently under the spot circle. This lets you compare highlight and shadow areas or analyse the contrast of your scene. |
